Think of all the wonderful Sunday feasts you'll be able to prepare for the family once this dual-purpose roaster is in your collection.
Featuring aluminium cores, the pots and pans in Jamie Oliver's range of hard anodised cookware have excellent heat distribution while being lightweight. The hard anodised technology also ensures that they're super strong, durable and resistant to wear and tear, making them superb for everyday use.
Things get even better. Applicable items have Tefal's revolutionary Prometal Pro, a 6-layer non-stick coating; it's metal-utensil safe while affording easy food release and cleaning. Jamie Oliver Hard Anodised range is manufactured in China and there's a limited lifetime guarantee on that surface, too.
Finally, it needs to be noted that this piece of cookware was created with health and the environment in mind. The non-stick coating contains no lead, cadmium or PFOA and the pans are recyclable.
Britain's Jamie Oliver has built an internationally admired career based on the premise that anyone can cook, and cook well. France's Tefal has been making splendid nonstick cookware for over a half century. When you put those two sets of talents and aspirations together, you get products aimed at making cooking easier, more efficient and very enjoyable. Jamie Oliver and Tefal's reasonably priced pans put an ideal and rewarding culinary life well within your reach.
I'm unashamedly a Scanpan fan but when I couldn't find a lidded roaster to fit my over I opted for this one.
The first think I noticed on opening it was how many times you get to read Jamie's name! It's on the lid handle, both handles on the dish and even on the bottom of the pan, just in case you've forgotten him when you turned it over!
The pan appears to be robust with secure handles and good solid construction. The anodised surface has a gritty feel but is still easy to clean. It doesn't have the 'steam clean' option of a scanpan (you can chuck them under cold water while they're hot and they're almost clean!) so I'll need to remember not to run it under cold water: the instructions say this might warp the pan.
I specifically wanted a lid for sealed roasting and to reduce the need to clean my oven. The lid on this pan fits well.
The pan is designed with the handles pointing upwards which means you'll have no trouble fitting it into a smaller oven: I've bought pans in the past that didn't fit because the handles were at right angles and not included in the pan dimensions.
I have one issue with the design: The rack with this roaster sits very high. With the lid on you'd be limited to a chicken or a small roast and I really don't know what the point is of all that wasted space at the bottom of the pan. I'll probably use the rack on the bbq and substitute a much lower 'old faithful' roasting rack.
It's always difficult to assess non stick cookware until you've had it for a few years. Some of it lasts brilliantly and some starts to wear off withing a couple of years. We'll see how this pan goes. At this stage it's a case of 'so far so good'.
