Salt Pigs

Despite its less-than-flattering name, a salt pig is actually a handy little tool (and not a candidate for hypertension). Salt pigs can be kept on the countertop within reach while cooking, that way you can easily get your teaspoon's worth into those recipes when required. If you're cooking a lot, this is much easier than hauling out the container of salt and pouring it into the measuring spoon (which almost always results in spillage, leaving the kitchen floor feeling like someone just came back from the beach).
