Riedel

50 years ago, Claus J Riedel proposed a radical new theory. The taste of a wine, he suggested, was determined as much by the character of that wine as it was by the shape of the glass from which it was tasted. The idea of designing a specific glass for a specific type of wine was unheard of at that time. All wine glasses were made with the same shape. So Riedel set about making things right.

Coming from a family that had been making glass for 9 generations, Riedel was in a unique position to test his theory. Riedel wine glasses were first introduced in 1961, with each glass tailored to enhance specific properties of body, taste, and bouquet.
